Leak Repair Forces Cook Plant Unit 2 Shut Down

Just a minute ahead of 11am this morning, operators at the Cook Nuclear Power Plant near Bridgman safely removed the plant’s Unit 2 reactor from service when a small leak was discovered on a pipe feeding one of the unit’s pressurizer spray valves. The time was 10:59am this morning, Friday, May 1st.

Cook Plant officials tell us that the nuclear plant’s Unit 1 remains at 100-percent power.

They also report that Cook’s Unit 2 will remain offline until the leak repair has been safely and successfully completed. A return to service date is not provided for competitive reasons.

The Cook Nuclear Plant is owned and operated by Indiana Michigan Power, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana. At full capacity, the 1,084-net MW Unit 1 and 1,194-net MW Unit 2 combined produce enough electricity for more than one and one half million average homes.
