Last Berrien Recycling Event of the Calendar Year This Month

As you prep the house and yard this fall for the onset of winter in a couple of months, Berrien County is affording you one last formal opportunity to engage in recycle critical items from the yard, house and garage this month before they, too, shut down until spring.

Berrien County residents can recycle household chemicals, home medical waste, electronics, and more and aoso have personal documents shredded, coming up on Saturday, October 14th, from 8am to 12 Noon. The community recycling event takes place at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycling Center, located at  3200 Chamberlain Road near Buchanan.

There is a fee of $10 per computer monitor and $20 per television, which will be collected at the event, however all other accepted items will be collected at no charge to the homeowner.

Donations are appreciated and happily accepted in order to help defray collection costs, which can mount up when you have the degree of successes that Berrien County has achieved over the years.

Examples of items accepted at this event include the following:

  • Oil-based paint
  • Used motor oil
  • Antifreeze
  • Gasoline
  • Pesticides and yard chemicals
  • Cleaners
  • Unwanted pills
  • Medical sharps
  • Batteries of all sizes
  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Printers
  • Small and large appliances.

Additionally, personal documents are accepted for on-site shredding.

A complete list of accepted items is posted at www.berriencounty.org/recycle, or call Jill Adams, in the Berrien County Parks Department at 983-7111 x8234.

The October 14 collection is the final Berrien County Community Recycling event of the year.  The next event is scheduled for April 2018.
