BLOCK PARTY LINEUP
The Block Party will welcome three distinct musical performances. Kicking things off at 5 pm is Saxsquatch, bringing whimsy to open the event. The Lasso DJ is up next, spinning beats solo before he joins the headliner, Jordan Hamilton Trio.
Saxsquatch & Bridge Band
Some may call it “Apocalyptic Funk”. Some may call it “The Most Elusively Funky Music In The World”. Whatever you call it, these Michigan frontiersmen sure know how to lay down the grooves with their Midwestern brand of Jazz-Fusion! Blistering saxophone, coupled with soaring guitar, punchy bass, and deep-pocket drums…this party will start with a bang!
Jordan Hamilton Trio
Coming out of Kalamazoo, band leader Jordan Hamilton is a mix of mastery and maverick musicality; hip-hop influenced, rhythmically layered, melodically robust, avant-garde, folk-soul music. Genres are groomed together to represent and inquire the soul. A different kind of symphony, hopeful enough to grow our empathy; emotional energy crafted from integrity, immaterial and immortal, experienced at the speed of sound, with a bit of bounce, groove by the ounce, and all the jump you’ll need to move.
Joining him is Grayson Nye, one of the most up-and-coming keyboardists in the Michigan music scene. Coming from a diverse musical background, Grayson’s skills allow him to fit in any genre, from classical to jazz, R&B to hip-hop, or folk to indie. All of these styles are reflected in his compositions as well as his playing.
Rounding on the group is the multi-instrumentalist, The Lasso – a veteran of musicality and engineering, having produced and recorded hundreds of records over the span of his career. From hip-hop-influenced psychedelia to ethereal phase music, synthed-out space funk, and loft freak folk, The Lasso’s voice is unlike any other.
The 2022 Block Party’s technical support is provided by the Roadie Clinic.
FOOD, DRINKS, & ACTIVITIES
Guests will enjoy delicious food from Larks Girl’s BBQ and Lost Coast Shaved Ice food trucks. Wash down your meal with a cash bar, featuring The Livery Beer and local wine. Proceeds support free KAC art exhibitions.
During the Block Party, you can take a birthday selfie with Lotus, sign the chalk-walk birthday card, play cornhole, and explore the galleries as part of the celebration.
Pets are prohibited. Service animals are always welcome.
