I&M Crews From SW Michigan Headed to Ice Storm in Kentucky/West Virginia

It was a busy early morning roll-out for a number of Indiana Michigan Power company employees and contractors as they built up resources, stocking trucks at their docks in Bridgman preparing to head south to help in case of major power outages from a projected ice storm in the Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia region.

I&M says they are dispatching more than 250 employees and contractors to that region this morning to assist in anticipation of the expected ice storm which packs the potential to cause major power disruptions.

Crews from across I&M’s service area are on the road and expect to reach the Eastern Kentucky/West Virginia area in advance of the most severe weather. I&M’s crews are dedicated to safely restoring power for utility customers and will be prepared to assist AEP sister companies Kentucky Power and Appalachian Power (APCO).

  • I&M is committed to providing mutual assistance to other companies working to restore power outside the I&M service area.
  • I&M customers also benefit from mutual assistance when utility professionals from other areas help I&M restore power during major outages in northern Indiana, east central Indiana and Southwest Michigan.
  • I&M always evaluates its resources to ensure adequate staffing is maintained in the I&M area before sending some of its crews to assist elsewhere.
