Harbor Country Road Work Next Week Will Bring Daylight Closures

The Berrien County Road Department is signaling a couple of daytime road closures next week in the Harbor Country community of Chikaming Township. The project will impact traffic on both Youngren Road and S. Prairie Road.

The project, involving utility work taking place along Youngren Road near Red Arrow Highway and S. Prairie at Harbert Road, involves the installation of new utility poles being set in the road right-of-way. Additionally, new power lines will be strung, requiring the roads to be closed for the safety of crews and the traveling public.

The project is slated to begin at 8:30am next Wednesday morning, February 3rd, weather permitting, and work is expected to continue until about 4pm on Friday, February 5th.

The project involves two different traffic restrictions being implemented. On Wednesday, February 3rd, Youngren Road near Red Arrow Highway will be closed to thru traffic where and when utility work is taking place. Then, on Thursday and Friday, February 4th and 5th, S. Prairie Road at Harbert Road will be closed for thru traffic where and when the utility work continues.

The daily closures will occur from approximately 8:30am until 4pm each day both work and weather permitting, and travelers are asked to find alternative routes or use the established detour route until the work is completed.

Berrien County Road Department officials tell us that the recommended detour route for Youngren Road closure will be S. Prairie Road to Red Arrow Highway. The detour route for the S. Prairie Road closure will be Harbert Road to Red Arrow Highway.

Both roads are expected to be reopened to thru traffic over night daily.
