Hagar Township officials hail expansion of Monte Package Company

Hagar Township officials are hailing news of a $1.9 million expansion planned by Monte Package Company. Township Supervisor Izzy DiMaggio tells us the township board this week approved a tax abatement for the plan.

“It’s a 12 year, 50% tax break for the Monte Package Company right in Riverside in Hagar Township,” DiMaggio said. “Monte proposes to build a brand new administrative office.”

DiMaggio says Monte employs around 50 people in the area, and the 6,500 square foot addition will add about ten new employees.

“They make packaging for the fruit industry and so forth. They’re pretty big time. They’ve got facilities here and also in Florida. They make products for the agricultural industry.”

DiMaggio says the company will be assessed at 50% of the normal tax rate on the addition for 12 years as part of the tax break. He tells us the company’s plans are great news for the township. Construction will get started within a month and the expansion should be finished next year.
