The proposed budget for the next fiscal year from Governor Gretchen Whitmer includes a pause on the sales tax of electric vehicles.
“We cannot leave any worker or any community behind and we must ensure that families and drivers alike can see the financial benefit of going electric.”
She spoke at LaFontaine Ford in the Grand Rapids suburb of Walker on Wednesday. Whitmer says help is needed to get people into an electric vehicle as General Motors has a goal of going all electric with new vehicles by 2035, and other automakers are likely to follow. The sales tax pause would take a maximum of 24-hundred dollars off the cost of a vehicle, and federal incentives add 75-hundred more dollars.
