A big parcel of land in Benton Township is under option to a large investment firm and area leaders are hoping it will attract a major employer to the area.
The property at Meadowbrook and Yore in Benton Township has been in the Leitz family for more than four decades, used solely for farming. Offered for development unsuccessfully in previous years, Cornerstone Alliance CEO Rob Cleveland is hopeful now is the right time to find a buyer who will develop something substantial, that will add to the area’s economy.
The property is unique, it’s 280 acres, it’s close to major transportation routes, it has carried the Michigan Economic Developers Association certification, and now Franklin Partners, a well-capitalized investment firm, is actively looking for someone to develop the site.
“We’ve spent a ton of resources. The community, AEP, and the State of Michigan have spent over a hundred thousand dollars on that site to help get it certified to a level where we can really market it,” said Cleveland.
Cleveland and others are excited about the opportunity the land presents. They’ve engaged a site-selection firm to present the property to the right companies looking for a footprint in Southwest Michigan. Possible uses include a data center, a food processor, light manufacturing, or a distribution hub.
