
Girls on the Run of Southwest Michigan will host its Celebration 5K, presented by Corewell Health, on Friday, May 2, at at the running course at Whirlpool Global Headquarters, North of Benton Harbor on M-63.
In a release, the group explaine that the event wraps up a dynamic program where 3rd-8th grade girls discover their inner strength through fun running games, lively discussions, and team-building activities. Designed to spark confidence, forge friendships, and inspire community spirit, Girls on the Run blends physical activity with life-changing lessons that prepare girls for a lifetime of bold possibilities.
The Celebration 5K is open to the public with a $30 registration fee, and all proceeds support Girls on the Run of Southwest Michigan. Last year, over 1,000 participants, including program girls, families, and community members, joined the event. This non-timed fun run begins at 6:00 PM, with girls and families requested to arrive by 5:00 PM and community runners by 5:30 PM. A warm-up and short program start at 5:40 PM.
“Girls on the Run is so much more than an afterschool program,” said program coach Amber Hagarbome. “It empowers girls of all abilities to discover their unique strengths while fostering a sense of community in a team environment. Our trained coaches lead engaging lessons that combine physical activity with life skills, equipping girls to confidently navigate life’s challenges.”
