The Berrien County Friend of the Court office will hold some off-site hours in October to answer questions about child support.
The office’s Deborah Withers tells us the idea is to set up in a neutral space so those who are reluctant to go to the courthouse can get questions answered.
“It’s for both payers and payees,” Withers said. “Anybody that would have questions about their case, whether they receive child support or pay child support, if they want to talk with us about how the court system works as it related to child support and custody and parenting time. So, we’ll have staff members available from both our enforcement division as well as domestic investigators.”
Withers says Friend of Court staff will be on hand to explain the child support system and to help people with their cases. Community service agencies will also be on hand for the events to offer information on their programs.
The Friend of the Court off-site days will be October 18 from 3 to 6:30 at the Benton Harbor Library, and October 24 from 3 to 6:30 at the Niles District Library.
No arrests for bench warrants will be made at either event.
