Planned at Lake Michigan College for next month is a free jazz concert.
LMC says the Mendel Center Jenkins Theater will host artists Kim Nazarian and Jay Ashby on Saturday, November 2 for the free show set to be part of its Jazz Festival. The performance is expected to be the highlight of the event.
LMC director of choirs and music lecturer Rebecca Derbas-Selvidge says the concert will be an opportunity to see some top notch performers surrounded by college and high school talent from the area. High school music instructors interested in having their students participate in the experience can register online.
LMC says Nazarian is a world-renowned, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist. She’ll conduct two days of vocal solo and ensemble clinics with high school and college students during the Jazz Festival.
Ashby is a four-time Grammy-winning producer. He’ll share his expertise with students through band clinics and Brazilian percussion workshops.
The November 2 performance at the Mendel Center will start at 7 p.m. and is free and open to everyone.
