As 2017 was coming to a close, fire roared through a Bangor business tonight, so intense that it took nine departments converging to battle the stubborn blaze.
South Haven Area Emergency Services officials say that the fire destroyed May’s Furniture & Antiques at the corner of M-43 and 52nd Street in Arlington Township. The first alarm was sounded at 6:10pm and firefighters responded from nine different departments including the Bangor Community Fire Department, South Haven, Columbia, Lawrence, Watervliet, Hartford, Covert, Paw Paw and Keeler Fire Departments.
The nine units converged to attack the fire that engulfed May’ Furniture & Antiques. In the middle of the winter storm that has settled into the region for the past two days, firefighters also had to contend with temperatures at 2-degrees below zero at the time of the fire. In fact, due to the cold, water had to be shuttled to the scene by tanker trucks.
There were no reported injuries in the blaze which remains under investigation.
