Please provide an example of when you feel you were at your very best in taking action on the job or in your role.
I have been fortunate to have two careers in my lifetime. My current one, as a marketing business owner, and my past career as a Broadcast Journalist. I always feel in my element when I am involved with not-for-profits and fundraising. In 2006, a tornado ripped through the city where I lived and worked as a News Anchor, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. My team worked tirelessly on air before, during, and after the event unfolded. First to protect residents, and later to raise awareness and funds to support those left without a place to call home. We were live with telethons, and special reports while working to put together our regular newscasts. As the main female anchor, I was involved in it all. It was an emotional and fulfilling time, when we came together as a newsroom and community. We were at our best and were recognized for our work by the Associated Press with “Best Newscast” and “Best News Organization.”

What’s the funniest thing that ever happened on your road to success?
TV News Bloopers. Anything and everything can happen on live tv. Need I say more? There are a few, but they are hard to find – thank goodness!

Who most inspires your personal drive for success every day?
It’s definitely a combination of my desire to do well in my role for my clients, and family. My husband was the one who convinced me to go out on my own and start my marketing business. He has always supported my leadership potential, and I want to do the same for my daughter. My hope is for her to be inspired by the increasing presence of women in influential positions and know that everyone has the potential to lead and excel in their respective fields. I want her to see the emphasis I place on continuous learning and self-improvement and how that translates into organizational success. I strive to have a positive impact on those I work for and collaborate with and hope that translates into being a good role model for my daughter and other female leaders of the future.

What is your best advice to women in Southwest Michigan looking to succeed, as you have, in business?
Don’t let the fear of failure or imposter syndrome stop you from thinking big and bold. Act like the person you want to become, and don’t doubt your abilities. Everything you do paves the way for new opportunities for yourself and those who come after you. Let the women around you see your courage to lead, and they will follow.

What does your selection to the ranks of the Bold Women of Business from Moody on the Market mean to you?
It means what I do matters. That someone thought enough of me to say I’m making a difference in this community—as a female Entrepreneur and human being. Celebrating achievements in this way can help women overcome gender bias and leadership style stereotypes so they can be seen for what they truly are—Strong, Bright, Confident and Bold Women of Business.
