The Edwardsburg VFW is remembering the soldiers who died in conflicts in the Middle East by hosting the Middle Eastern Conflict Memorial Wall this week.

Starting Friday, July 26, the wall will be placed at the VFW remembering the Michigan servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. VFW Riders Secretary Ann Curtis says there are about 20 soldiers who were from the Southwest Michigan region listed, and this is a chance for people who knew them to pay their tributes.

“Three years ago we had the Michigan-Vietnam traveling wall displayed at our post and we just felt something that not a lot of people can get up north or wherever they’re displaying it at,” Curtis said. “We felt it was just a good thing to do for our veterans in our area.”

On Friday, the wall will be escorted from Coldwater to the Edwardsburg VFW Post. The first ceremony for the wall will be held that day at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, July 27, former soldiers and current VFW members will speak at a ceremony at 12:30 p.m. There will also be a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“It just gives me a good feeling in my heart and I love to support our veterans in our area and honor our soldiers because they fight for our freedom and they paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. I like to think of them every day because without them, we wouldn’t be living in a free world.”

The wall will be up until Sunday, July 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can learn more right here.
