The former GG Grocery building at 861 Buss Avenue in Benton Harbor was destroyed by fire Sunday morning.

No injuries have been reported related to the fire, but the building appears to be a total loss.

Fire crews work to knock down the blaze at the former GG Grocery building.

Prior to the fire, the building was boarded up and appeared abandoned. In the neighborhood, the building is tucked into a residential area just off South Fair Avenue/Emergency I-94.

One area resident was outside watching fire crews knock down the blaze and said they smelled smoke at around 6:30 am this morning.

“Came out and just saw the fire just burning. They were putting it out, but for some reason they ran out of water for awhile. They’re just now getting the water going again.”

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
