There’s been another change to the leadership at St. Joseph Public Schools as Amy Dirlam has taken on the role of assistant superintendent of the district.

Dirlam has spent the last 29 years in education, starting out at St. Joseph’s Upton Middle school. She most recently worked at Berrien RESA as a technology and innovation consultant. Dirlam tells us working at RESA helped prepare her to come back home and serve in a leadership role.

“I have a much better understanding of the robust services that are offered by Berrien RESA,” Dirlam said. “While I was there, I was able to build relationships with a variety of different consultants and get a better feel for what they can provide us. I feel like I have a lot of people who can support us, and that’s exciting.”

Dirlam says she has always wanted to be in a leadership role and has been preparing for this for a while. She credits the community, staff, and students with leading her back to St. Joseph.

“I am extremely excited to work alongside of the administrative team and then also work alongside of the teachers to grow. We all grow together and St. Joseph has a really robust strategic plan in place and I’m extremely excited to work with everybody to implement that.”

Dirlam started her new role this week. She replaces Kristen Bawks as assistant superintendent as Bawks has been promoted to district superintendent.
