A couple of local business owners stripped of nearly $15,000 worth of heavy gauge electrical wire in two separate cases a couple of weeks apart are fuming, and understandably so. Not only did the thieves steal an extremely valuable commodity from them, but put their businesses at serious risk at the same time.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help in identifying subjects responsible for stealing up to $15,000 worth of wire from the two local businesses. One theft occurred at the end of October and the other occurred recently here in mid-November, a couple of weeks apart.
Detectives working the cases say the thefts are similar in nature. Both businesses are in rural areas approximately 5 miles west of Allegan within close proximity to one another. Both thefts occurred at night and the suspect or suspects drove a quad terrain type vehicle to the scene. Large heavy gauge electrical wire was stolen in each case, and the thief or thieves must have had knowledge of electrical power in order to safely steal the electrical wire.
The Sheriff’s Office believes the wire is being stolen for scrap purposes. The stolen wire was distinct in that it was approximately 2” thick with the copper core being approximately ½” thick.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Craig Gardiner of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office at 269-686-4705.
