In remembrance of D-Day, Lest We Forget held a beach landing reenactment at Tiscornia Park in St. Joseph on Saturday.

Actors from across the state gathered to recreate the famous Normandy invasion, with the event featuring military boats, planes, artillery, and more. Lest We Forget President Larry Wozniak was glad to see much of the community come out and mark the 80th anniversary of the world-changing event.

The reenactment depicted Allied forces landing at Normandy Beach in France, while actors dressed as German soldiers attempted to defend their position from the dunes.

In attendance were World War II veterans, including 106 year-old Robert Holt, one of the oldest living. Holt was drafted into the military and served on the 349 field artillery unit for three years. He said being at the reenactments brought back some good and bad memories, but in all, he was glad that he was able to be at the event.

“A good memory, some of it bad,” Holt said. “I remember all that I was a part of that on D-Day. I was in part of the Battle of the Bulge.”

Lest We Forget held also held another reenactment, the Sapian Beach invasion Saturday.

Additional displays troop encampments, vehicles, and more are being held at the Southwest Michigan Regional Airport Sunday.
