The Curious Kids’ Museum in St. Joseph remains closed from a fire this summer and executive director Lori Marciniak says they have a plan for reopening. She spoke to the St. Joseph City Commission this week about what is next.
“I included pictures of our vision in the packet of what we would like to do. It includes adding about 4,000 square feet of actual exhibit space.”
That would be part of an addition to the building, relocating staff offices and installing large windows to give people a view of Lake Michigan from exhibit areas. Marciniak says they are not proposing buying the building from the city unless they weren’t able to raise the money, but says in conversations with several foundations they don’t think that will be an issue.
“This is our plan, this is what we would like to try to do, I think it’s a dramatic difference to the building, to our persona downtown.”
Over 50% of the exhibits were destroyed in the July 5 fire.
