County Board Approves Agreement To Provide Lead Filters In Benton Harbor

The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has approved a memorandum of understanding with the city of Benton Harbor stating the Berrien County Health Department will continue providing lead filters to customers of the city’s water system while work continues to replace all lead water service lines in the community. Berrien County Administrator Brian Dissette said Thursday he’s pleased with the collaboration between the city and the county.

“We will be implementing a very well thought-out and planned media strategy to make it clear that our staff are going to provide these filters, free of charge to Benton Harbor water customers,” Dissette said.

The agreement says the county health department will provide the filters through May of next year, unless the lead line replacement project is finished sooner. An EPA study has determined the filters are effective. Anyone with questions should contact the Berrien County Health Department.
