Corewell Health South is marking the completion of the latest phase of its pavilion renovation and expansion. At a Monday gala, representatives of Corewell Health said the more than $180 million project will mean better care for patients and a better experience for visitors and staff. Corewell Health CEO Tina Freese Decker said the project represents the human spirit at work.
“This building is just one step forward to help us achieve and realize our mission and our vision, a future where health is simple, affordable, equitable, and exceptional,” Freese Decker said.
After six years of work, the pavilion is open and the public can see it. Corewell Health South CEO Loren Hamel told us the facility is designed for comfort and ease.
“We have improved a lot of technology, improved a lot of space,” Hamel said. “We believe this is a place where our friends and neighbors will be blessed with healthcare, and we fell it’s a place where we can attract a new generation of healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.”
Hamel said the idea for the new facility came about more than 20 years ago, and at the time, leaders of Lakeland Health decided on a “replacement hospital in place,” still at the location between Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. All clinic services are being moved out of old buildings into the new 80,000 square feet of space.
