A positive test for COVID-19 by one Cook Plant employee has resulted in that person being quarantined at home with mild symptoms of the virus, and the excellent news for colleagues is that only one other employee had come into close contact.
Just the same, all precautions are being observed according to Cook Plant Communications Manager Bill Downey, who has released the following statement on behalf of Indiana Michigan Power:
An employee at Indiana Michigan Power’s Cook Nuclear Plant has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is quarantined at home with mild symptoms. We are following the Centers For Disease Controls and Prevention (CDC) guidance in consultation with our company doctors and providing information to employees. The infected employee only had close contact with one other employee. We are coordinating with local and national health officials and have provided specific guidance to the individual who had close contact with the infected employee, and any others within that individual’s work group.
Our employees’ and their coworkers’ safety and health is our top priority as we continue to serve our customers during this outbreak. We have communicated this updated information to our employees at Cook, I&M and our parent company American Electric Power, and have taken all necessary steps in accordance with CDC guidelines including the cleaning and disinfecting of any affected workspaces.
Like Cook Plant, Indiana Michigan Power and American Electric Power continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and are taking ongoing actions such as cleaning work areas, working with smaller crews, having employees work from home when possible, restricting business travel and meetings, and closing our facilities to all visitors (except necessary deliveries).
