Michigan’s largest energy provider say that recent upgrades have resulted in 20% fewer outages. Consumers Energy provides natural gas and electricity to 6.8 million Michigan residents across the state. Spokesperson Josh Paciorek says smart technology is a big reason for fewer outages.
“In adding smart technology, or self-healing technology, to our system, that allows us to either prevent outages from happening in the first place or helps us to fix outages in a faster manner.”
Consumers is in the middle of a $5.4-billion investment that also is upgrading electric equipment like poles and substations.
