Congressman Bill Huizenga, who’s the odds-on favorite to win re-election now that Fred Upton is retiring from Congress, praised Upton for his longtime service and spotlighted the issues on which they’ve found common ground.
Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI) released the following statement thanking his colleague Fred Upton for his service to Michigan.
“I want to thank Fred for his commitment, service, and dedication to Michigan over the years. Fred and I have worked together on a host of issues including prioritizing the protection of the Great Lakes, leveling the playing field for Michigan agriculture, and supporting efforts to clean up PFAS and lead contamination. Fred’s statesman-like legacy will be remembered both in Michigan and our nation’s capital. I wish both he and Amey the best as they start their next chapter.”
Huizenga and Upton were thrown into the same district by the latest re-districting–two longtime Republicans forced to face a Primary this August. Huizenga’s road to re-election is now much smoother. He’s not expected to face any meaningful challenge from the right in GOP circles, as he’s been a consistent supporter of former President Donald Trump.
