With just 72 hours of notice, the employees of Chili’s Grill & Bar in St. Joseph are preparing to close the location for good.
Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the closure say it was “totally unexpected.”
Brinker International, owner of the Chili’s Grill & Bar restaurant chain confirmed on Monday that the Chili’s Grill & Bar at 1275 Hilltop Road in St. Joseph is scheduled to close on Tuesday, January 30.
Deme Jackson, Corporate Communications Manager at Brinker said there is no additional information at this time.
Brinker owns, operates, or franchises more than 1,600 restaurants in 29 countries and two U.S. territories.
In their fiscal report for 2023, the company noted “ongoing global and domestic conditions” negatively impacting consumer spending and their operations.
Brinker International also noted they permanently closed 16 company-owned Chili’s in 2023 that were “performing below our standards and were near or at the expiration of their lease terms. Our strategic plan is targeted to support our long-term growth objectives, with a focused on… those restaurant locations that have the greatest return potential for the Company and our shareholders.”
