Benton Township is looking to sell some condominium properties it owns near Nickerson Avenue and M-139.
At a meeting of the Benton Township Board of Trustees this week, Clerk Carolyn Phillips said the township owns 15 parcels in the Mannerwoods Condominium development that could be developed into housing. She said Indiana Michigan Power wants to move the power lines on those properties but can’t unless given permission by the township.
“When they put down the electric lines — and I’m not sure who did that — they put the lines almost in the middle of the lot, so now we’re selling those.,” Phillips said.
Trustees voted to name Phillips and Supervisor Cathy Yates as designated signers for activities related to the sale of the sites. This will allow the power lines to be moved.
The township has owned the properties since 2008. They’re located off Somerlayton Road.
