Community College Association Praises State Spending Plan

The state House and Senate Appropriations Committees this week approved a spending plan for the state’s community colleges, and it’s getting high marks from a group that represents the institutions. The Michigan Community College Association tells us more:

Following the approval of budgets supporting Michigan’s community colleges by the Senate and the House appropriations committees, Michigan Community College Association President Brandy Johnson issued the following statement:

“Michigan’s community colleges greatly appreciate the investments that Michigan legislators are making to strengthen the educational opportunities available for our students. We applaud the Senate’s approval of a 10% increase in operational funding, as well as the major investment in student financial aid for students that will benefit the class of 2022 and beyond. We are particularly grateful for the bipartisan leadership of Senators LaSata and Hertel in shaping these budgets.

“We also applaud the House Appropriations Committee’s approval of our budget today that will allow our colleges to better invest and strengthen their programs. Specifically, the funding to expand Michigan Reconnect and to support academic catchup for recent high school graduates will greatly impact the futures of many Michiganders.”

“MCCA greatly appreciates the commitment of our legislative partners in ensuring that community colleges have the necessary support to contribute to Michigan’s talent development strategy.  We look forward to partnering closely with the Governor, Senate, and House as they finalize the FY2023 higher education budgets.”
