Commercial Truck & Bus Operators Face International Roadchecks

Commercial trucking companies, fleet operators, bus drivers, big rig haulers and everyone else responsible for long and short-haul trucking across America will need to be ready for International Roadchecks next week with Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officers leading the way.

All across North America the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Roadcheck operation is slated to run from Tuesday, June 5th through Thursday, June 7th including Michigan State Police operations throughout Michigan’s Great Southwest along I-94, I-196 and other major roadways and trunklines that feature weigh stations and rest areas for commercial drivers.

According to authorities, Motor Carrier Officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Michigan State Police will be conducting inspections at weigh station facilities and in rest area locations throughout the Great Lakes State with a particular focus on driver hours-of-service compliance.

State Police say, “Every day, lives are saved throughout North America as a result of commercial motor vehicle roadside inspections.” Authorities anticipate more than 62,000 drivers of large trucks and buses will be inspected during the three-day North American operation.

The vehicle inspection includes checking these and other areas:

  • Brake systems
  • Cargo securement
  • Coupling devices
  • Driveline/driveshaft components
  • Frames
  • Fuel systems
  • Lighting devices
  • Steering mechanisms
  • Suspensions
  • Tires
  • Van and open-top trailer bodies
  • Wheels
  • Electrical systems
  • Hazardous material shipping components.

All commercial drivers will be asked to provide their operating credentials and hours-of-service documentation at the time of the roadside inspection process. Inspectors will also be attentive to apparent alcohol and/or drug impairment.

Good time to make sure your rigs are in tip-top shape, your documentation is up to date, and you’re in good condition to drive anywhere in the country next week.
