Celebration Cinema Raising Funds For Ukrainian Relief With Weekend Screenings

Celebration Cinema is joining with other movie theater chains around the country to help raise money for Ukrainian relief efforts. It says it’s showing the 2014 Ukrainian film, The Guide, this weekend and 100% of the box office proceeds will go to a special Ukraine Relief Fund being managed by the Human and Civil Rights Organizations of America, Incorporated. The film’s director, Oles Sanin, is currently locked down in Kyiv, but has provided an introduction now attached to the movie that conveys the urgency of the situation and the need for assistance. The Guide is Ukraine’s entry to the Academy Awards in 2014. It’s a drama set in the 1930s depicting  Soviet oppression. The story centers on the characters of Peter, a 10-year-old boy who has suffered enormous loss, and a blind priest who does everything he can to help the boy grow and survive. Anton Green, the young actor who played Peter, is currently 19 and studying political science at the University of Michigan. The Guide is being shown this weekend at Celebration Cinema in Benton Harbor with subtitles.
