A third Casey’s could soon be coming to Berrien County.
Oronoko Township Supervisor Mike Hildebrand informed the township board Tuesday that Casey’s is interested in building a location near the U.S. 31 and M-139 interchange in Berrien Springs.
Casey’s – a gas station and convenience store chain known for its pizza – opened a new location at I-94 and Red Arrow highway in Bridgman in December. Another location at I-94 and M-140 in Watervliet opened in 2018.
Hildebrand said representatives from Casey’s met with the Oronoko Township Joint Planning Commission in December, and the proposed store would be across U.S. 31 from the BP station, next to the Andrews Korean Church. The area is currently zoned for commercial use.
“They need a special use permit for the fueling station part, so we have to go through that process,” Hildebrand said. “They may surprise and get it done by January, but sometime in February we’ll get that permit application and then schedule the public hearings. So, that’s a nice addition to the community.”
