Pandemic relief money is bound for South Haven following news of grants awarded to both the city itself and the South Haven Area Emergency Services. Both have been awarded grants related to Coronavirus Relief Funding through the Michigan Department of Treasury.
Both organizations were awarded grants through the First Responder Hazard Pay Premiums Program (FRHPPP) and the Public Safety and Public Health Payroll Reimbursement Program (PSPHPR). Under the FRHPPP, the City and SHAES were awarded monies to provide hazard pay to first responders. The City received $19,000 and SHAES received $47,000, all of which was distributed as hazard pay to the organization’s first responders.
The second program, PSPHPR, was created to reimburse eligible public safety and public health payroll expenditures under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The City was awarded $148,878 and SHAES was awarded $149,560. A portion of the City’s PSPHPR award will be distributed to South Haven Township as a reimbursement for their payments towards police services rendered by the South Haven Police Department.
