Dreamers often become doers and do-it-yourselfers often become the inventors of great new things and ideas. If you are, or know of, a maker of virtually anything, the clarion call has gone out for the 2016 Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire in Whirlpool Centennial Park early this summer.
The Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire is a celebration of invention and creativity for all ages. Organizers of the event have opened the gates on the application process for the June 4th showcase and invite your applications. A partnership involving Berrien RESA, Cornerstone Alliance, Kinexus and St. Joseph Today, the Mini Maker Faire is open to all makers including individuals, groups, industries and even schools interested in presenting projects that explore do-it-yourself innovation, reveal the process and show how materials are pushed to their limits.
Whether it's scientific exploration, woodworking, robotics, beekeeping or e-textiles, the Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire will explore it all. Showtime will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday, June 4th at the Whirlpool Centennial Park at 330 Broad Street below the bluff and across the railroad tracks from Silver Beach Pizza and the Amtrak station.
From science workshops to model making, from rocket-launching to 3D printing, the big-top tent and nearby fields were filled with amazing, interesting, and fun projects even in a steady rain for the first annual event last year. So, if you have a project or want to show people how they can make things themselves, organizers would love to have you apply to be a part of this year's show.
You can apply right now by clicking the link below, but be sure to do so no later than the deadline of April 24th. If you are a Young Maker under the age of 18, please have your adult project mentor submit your project for you.
What will you dream up for presentation at the 2nd Annual Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire this year? It's all part of a worldwide movement of Maker Faires in multiple cities across the globe. Be sure to follow the action on Facebook using the name MakerFaireSWMI.
