In a bid to find some sort of solution to mitigate the flooding of Business Loop 94 in front of Whirlpool’s Riverview Campus in Benton Harbor, the crew at the Michigan Department of Transportation tells us they will be closing a portion of that route, which is also Main Street in Benton Harbor beginning at 9am tomorrow morning, Thursday, February 20th.
MDOT Engineers say that the route will be closed between Riverview Drive and the Bicentennial Bridge from 9am until survey work can be complete, perhaps by early afternoon.
The road closure is needed to perform surveying and inspection for a project design to mitigate the persistent I-94 Business Loop flooding in that location, spurred by river levels that are higher than the elevation of the roadway at that site.
MDOT says that a detour will be posted during the closure, which is expected to last until early afternoon at this juncture.
