Bridgman’s Own Haymarket Brewing Takes Gold at the 2019 U.S. Beer Open Championship

Haymarket Brewing has been awarded gold in the “Strong Bock” category for their Demonstrator dopplebock beer at the 2019 U.S. Beer Open Championship. The championship took place on July 9th, 2019 in Oxford, Ohio where over 7,000 beers were judged, representing over 130 styles. The U.S. Open Beer Championship claims to judge more styles of beer than any other competition in the world.

Demonstrator is a dopplebock-style beer. The beer style was originated by monks in 17th century Germany, and is associated with their liquid-only diet during the 40-day period of Lent. As water alone would not sustain the monks for such a long fast with no solid food, they developed a type of “liquid bread” that was full of carbohydrates and nutrients. Haymarket’s Demonstrator has flavors of roasted malts, plus hints of chocolate, with a clean finish from cold lagering.

The beer is available on draft at the Haymarket Taproom in Bridgman.
