The rumored closing of the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Bridgman has been confirmed via a corporate list provided by Rite Aid headquarters in Pennsylvania.
The Bridgman Rite Aid, located at 3681 Shawnee Road, is on a list of 31 Rite Aid locations targeted for shutdown amid the pharmacy chain’s continuing financial struggles.
A statement said that the 31 stores in a dozen states were ‘underperforming’, and would therefore be closed. No precise closing date was given.
The US pharmacy industry has been on a financial roller coaster ride for about twenty years. First about half the independent owner-operated stores in the nation closed, often replaced by a nearby Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid. More recently, those chains have been ‘thinning the herd’, closing underperforming locations or sometimes replacing them with limited service or drive-thru prescription only stores, as happened on Red Arrow Highway in Stevensville.
The Bridgman Rite Aid is on a busy corner nearby a longtime Harding’s Supermarket location.
