The Berrien County Road Department is reminding drivers that the Walton Road bridge over the St. Joseph River in Buchanan Township will remain closed to all traffic until at least November 11, Veterans Day.
The bridge rehabilitation project, which has been ongoing throughout the year, is a maintenance project involving the bridge deck.
“The bridge rehabilitation related activities will provide continued life and use of the Walton Road Bridge over the St Joseph River,” states a release provided by the road department. “For the safety of crews and the traveling public, the bridge will be closed for construction.”
The public is requested to seek alternative routes or utilize the official detour route – U.S. 31 south to Niles-Buchanan Road – during the closure.
