Brandywine Community Schools is excited to welcome veterans from the Lest We Forget organization for a special event on November 4 at Brandywine Middle/Senior High School.

Lest We Forget will be releasing the “Book of Heroes” on November 10. This is the seventh book Lest We Forget has published. The new book contains 72 local veteran stories, 21 of which were written by Brandywine high school students under the guidance of history teacher Abilyn Janke. On November 4, students will present the newly published book to their veteran subjects.

“Students in my ninth grade US History courses last year were lucky enough to partake in interviewing veterans and writing their stories. It was such an amazing experience. My students worked so hard during the entire process and I am so proud of their work and excited for them to share this moment with the veteran that they interviewed and with our community,” said Janke.

The official book launch is November 10 at the Lest We Forget Veterans Day Patriotic Music Concert at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College. Copies of the book will be on sale at the event for $20 each.

“We appreciate the significant efforts made by Brandywine and its students to support our 7th edition book project. It has been so gratifying to see that our youth have taken the time to learn of the sacrifices of our veterans in keeping our nation free. They have participated first hand in helping us preserve the memory and stories of service of our Michiana veterans,” said Lest We Forget President, Larry Wozniak.

Lest We Forget is a non profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 2006 with the purpose of honoring the service of veterans to our country and to promote patriotism.
