The Brandywine Community Schools automotive program has received ASE training accreditation by the ASE Education Foundation.

The program was previously accredited, but lost that status during the pandemic. Accreditation is required by the state to teach the class.

With ASE training accreditation now back in place, automotive teacher at Brandywine Tim Witherow says students will see more benefits.

“We can give the students ASA certifications,” Witherow said. “They can get certifications that go right into the business of auto mechanics and they’ll have their certifications. What this means is we can offer students a career. We can offer them, I can teach them, get them ready for the real world is what I look at it.”

Witherow said this accreditation helps get the students more prepared, getting them into a body shop after graduation. The recent ASE training accreditation supports the students and region.

“My biggest goal, if you’re not going to do it for a living, that you know what to look for and what not to take advantage of, and I teach them how to fix basic stuff and save them thousands of dollars.”

In addition to the accreditation news, the school is gearing up to build a new center for the automotive program. Witherow said this will be coming in the coming years, and will include new machines.
