Fernwood Botanical Garden is celebrating the art of Bridgman artist Pamela Kirkham. The one-woman solo show entitled Birds, Butterflies & the Beauty That Surrounds Them opens March 22 at Fernwood in Niles.
Fernwood officials say Kirkham is an expressive and energetic painter who works in acrylics. Her work incorporates both the abstract and realistic.
Fernwood’s description of the artist and her work notes the following:
“Each piece is rich with textures and layer after layer of thin and thick paint. As Kirkham discovered, acrylic paint with its transparent to opaque consistency is an ideal material for expressing the multi-layered, healing nature of the human mind and its ability to morph from the abstraction of dreams to reality in an effort to heal itself.”
“As the world becomes more technologically advanced, we should never forget that our spirits came from and are grounded in nature.” – Pamela Kirkham
“The common thread throughout all of Pamela’s work is a desire to help people be more mindful of the positive aspects of their lives, as opposed to focusing on their life struggles. Whether that is through the Fight or Flight series or the Water, Altitude, & Atmosphere series, and even older work, her goal is to put you in a calm, meditative state of mind.”
A reception to celebrate the exhibit is scheduled for March 24 from 1 to 3 pm. The event is free and and open to the public.
