BH’s Jean Klock Park Goes to Kiosk Parking Fees — Pay By Plate

If you haven’t been to the beach at Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor yet this summer, you’ll discover something new there on your next visit. Parking kiosks. The city has gone digital for parking at the popular beachfront park, where you pay by your license plate.

The beach and park facilities at Jean Klock Park on Lake Michigan which officially opened for the season over the Memorial Day weekend has changed the method of payment for those who wish to park a vehicle on the grounds.

Two kiosks are currently located at the beach. One has been placed by the Beach House building, and the other at the first corner of the parking lot. The system the city is employing to collect parking fees is similar to the parking system at other local beaches. City officials say that an e-Parking app for Smartphones is currently under development.

Officials tell us that the pricing structure for beach parking has changed as well. City Residents are eligible for free passes, and will need to contact City Hall at 269-927-8400 Ext 8416 to obtain one. Season passes are also available at a rate of $35.00 for non-residents, and can be purchased via the same telephone number.

Additionally, per City of Benton Harbor Ordinances, Golf Carts are strictly prohibited from the beach. In fact, golf cart owners in violation will be cited and their cart may be towed. The City of Benton Harbor also strictly prohibits animals in the park. Pet owners in violation of the ordinance may be cited upon discovery as well.
