The village of Berrien Springs is celebrating the Fourth of July with its fourth annual Pickle festival this Thursday.

The one day festival will be held at the Berrien County Historical Association Center from 10 am to 5 pm and will feature plenty of fun for the entire family. From a plethora of vendors to old fashioned pickle games, the Pickle Festival committee is looking to welcome visitors from all over.

The Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber’s Sarah Spoonholtz told us more.

“We keep doing it because it just continues to grow year after year,” Spoonholtz said. “A few thousand people, it’s just something for people to do on the fourth. Nothing against hanging out with friends and family, but it provides them something to do that’s out of the house that gets them exposed to another community that maybe they didn’t have a chance to do that.”

There are a few new events this year, in addition to the usual fun.

“We’ve got the Frozen T-shirt contest, which is a lot of fun and something that we were hoping would be a good thing and a good activity for some of the older teens. But the biggest new thing that we have this year is probably the Pickle Emporium. It is a group of Michigan pickle companies that have sent us some of their products, and it’s an opportunity for us to highlight those products they have sent us and also allow people to purchase them, too.”

In addition to the festival, Berrien Springs is hosting a parade will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday followed by a fireworks show at dusk. Parking will be available at the Berrien Springs school lot. The fireworks will be held at the Berrien Springs fairgrounds, but the grounds will not be open.
