As you finalize putting your summer toys, garden tools, and other seasonal items away for the winter, you might want to avail yourself of the final 2019 Household Chemicals, Electronics Recycling, and Document Shredding Community Event coming soon. It may very well provide you with lots of additional space to pack those things away while also getting rid of hazardous things that shouldn’t be laying around unchecked.
Jill Adams, Environmental Property Manager for the Berrien County Parks & Recreation Department, tells us that all Berrien County residents can recycle household chemicals, home medical waste, electronics, and more, all while you also get your personal documents shredded on Saturday, October 12th from 8 am until Noon.
The community recycling event takes place at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycling Center located at 3200 Chamberlain Road in Buchanan.
There is a fee of $10 per computer monitor and $20 per television, which is due at the event. All other accepted items are collected at no charge, however donations are appreciated and accepted to help defray the costs of conducting the collection event.
Examples of items accepted at this event include:
- Oil-based paint
- Used motor oil
- Antifreeze
- Gasoline
- Pesticides
- Yard chemicals
- Cleaners
- Unwanted pills
- Medical sharps
- Batteries of all sizes
- Computers
- Televisions
- Printers
- Dehumidifiers
- Small and large appliances
- Personal documents are accepted for on-site shredding

The October 12th collection is the final Berrien County Community Recycling event of the year. The next event is not scheduled until April of 2020.
