The Berrien County Sheriff’s office publicly recognized several deputies this week for saving a life at the jail. Last October, just after midnight on the 6th in the female receiving area of the Berrien County Jail, deputies noticed a woman slumped over and unresponsive.
At the Berrien County Commission Committee of the Whole meeting, Jail Administrator Captain Celena Hebert said her deputies took quick action and that resulted in saving a life.
“Deputy Warman, I believe, is the one that found our inmate unresponsive in the cell. She called for help. Everybody responded, did what they should do, and called for medical. We did CPR, administered three rounds of Narcan, and here we are able to save the inmate’s life and hand out these awards.”
Those receiving recognition: Lieutenant Brandon Dipert, Deputy Kendra Warman, Deputy Ashton Howard, and Deputy Alyssa Carl.
Capt. Hebert says when people are admitted to the jail, they undergo a full search to ensure they don’t have anything that could harm themselves or others, but sometimes items are well hidden. Hebert said that issue will be resolved as soon as the new full body scanner that was delivered earlier this week is installed and in operation.
