Coming up next week in Berrien Springs is the Berrien County Youth Fair.

The event will run Monday through Saturday, and Fair Manager Karen Klug tells us it will offer something for just about everybody. Although there will be rides, food, and grandstand performances, Klug says the real stars are the kids who will be showing off their hard work all week.

“We have over 2,000 that have registered, and they do have to pre-register, depending on what their exhibit is, either on June 1, July 1, or August 1,” Klug said. “Last year we had over 12,000 exhibits. It’s a lot of hard work, but it provides a show place for them.”

Animal judging begins Monday, and a tractor pull will be featured at the grandstand that evening. The rides will open on Tuesday, and Klug says all the usual fair foods will be available. There will also be a free attraction this year.

“Our theme is ‘Explore Planet Fair.’ So, each year we have a free attraction and our free attraction this year is a portable planetarium and each show will include a tour of stars and constellations and planets that’s going to be fun.”

Tuesday will be Kids Day, when kids get in for free, and the grandstand show will be Circus Continental. Wednesday will bring a performance by country star Randy Houser. Thursday will feature the music of Abba, direct from Sweden. Friday’s grandstand show will be a demolition derby, and things will wrap up on Saturday night with Bullmania.

Klug advises those looking to buy grandstand tickets to only do so through the official Berrien County Youth Fair website as she has been told of third-party sites that sell bogus tickets. The correct site for buying tickets is right here.

Klug is expecting more than 100,000 to come to the fairgrounds throughout the fair’s six days.
