The Berrien County Treasurer’s office is gearing up for their 30th land auction, taking place Tuesday, July 30 at the DANK in Sodus Township.
One of the properties, located at 317 N. Veronica Court in the City of St. Joseph has generated high interest, prompting Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowski to host an open house on Sunday, July 28th from 5-7 p.m. Bidding on the home will start at $15,407 on July 31st. Our partners at WSJM spoke with Witkowski, who says it’s a great property that unfortunately ended up being foreclosed on.
“Great neighborhood, great city, and the house, sadly the people just walked away from. They didn’t pay the tax bills for three years, get the grass mowed for three years…didn’t pay the water and sewer bills, didn’t pay the electric bills and didn’t pay the gas bills,” Witkowski says.
In total, there will be 258 parcels available at next Tuesday’s auction. A $500 deposit is required at the start, which is returned if no property is purchased. The doors open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and the auction itself starts at 9:30. Those who arrive after 9:30 are not able to purchase.
