With Thanksgiving weekend here, many of us may be looking for ways to burn off some calories. Berrien County Parks Director Jill Adams suggests heading out for a brisk walk at one of the county’s six parks that will be open.
Adams says there are ample opportunities for recreation in Berrien County.
“The county park system offers miles of trails in different terrain and settings that will welcome people to come and walk off some of that turkey dinner and get some exercise, enjoy some peace and quiet, likely see some migrating birds that are still coming through the area,” Adams said.
Adams suggests Love Creek County Park, just outside of Berrien Springs, for those looking to take a good, long walk. It offers rolling hills and miles of trails throughout its 200 acres.
Heading into Christmas, Adams says the Berrien County Parks Department sells some pretty useful stocking stuffers.
“If someone’s looking for a unique gift idea — maybe they know someone who has everything that they might want, or maybe they’re nature lovers — an annual county parks pass is a great gift to give because it gives all year long.”
The passes are $40 and they’ll get you access to all the county’s parks. They can be purchased at the Berrien County Administration building in St. Joseph. Adams says sales of the passes help pay for maintenance at the county parks.
While there’s probably not going to be any snow this weekend, and therefore no cross-country skiing, she says another great recreation opportunity will be disc golf at Madeline Bertrand County Park in Niles.
