Berrien County Community Recycling Events Begin April 12th

Earth Day is a celebration of our planet, promoting environmental clean up and wildlife preservation across the globe. Locally, organizations in the state of Michigan use this holiday to spread the word about their work to improve water quality, restore native plants and habitats, and host fun events like planting trees and collecting debris from our beaches. To prepare for Earth Day 2022, get started on the Berrien County Community Recycling Day this Spring.

Since the development of Berrien County Community Recycling Events twenty-six years ago, over 36,000 people have participated, resulting in an astonishing two million pounds of household waste that has been properly disposed of, and 1.2 millions pounds of electronics recycled, rather than taking up space in our landfills.

This year, Reduce-Reuse-Recycle day will take place on Tuesday, April 12th, at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m, Berrien County residents will have the opportunity to bring household items for recycling, during this drive-thru event. (Stay in your car and the staff will unload your items– fun and good for the Earth!)

Items accepted on Tuesday 4/12 will be:
Household chemicals
Electronics
Foam
Documents for shredding

Large items like computer monitors, televisions, and items containing freon will each have a $10 – $20 disposal fee, and payments can be made out to Green Earth Electronics Recycling. There are four other dates scheduled for Recycling Events, at different locations:

May 14th, 8am – 12pm, at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycle Center in Buchanan
June 8th, 3pm – 7pm, at the Chikaming Township Hall in Harbert
September 17th, 9am – 1pm, at Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph
October 8th, 8am – 12pm, at the Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycle Center in Buchanan
