The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has saluted a 7-year-old girl who helped save her mother during a medical emergency. During Thursday’s meeting, Berrien County 911 Director Caitlin Sampsell said dispatchers told her of Tymella Holloway’s calm in a trying situation. She called 911 the night of August 8 and was composed as she related the address of the emergency, the telephone number, and exactly what was happening. Board Chair Mac Elliott handed Tymella a Certificate of Bravery.
“You are a brave young lady,” Elliott said. “I understand that when you called in, you even took the time to spell your name when you called, and that means you were clear headed, you were sharp, you were looking out for your mom, and I can’t imagine any parent being any more proud of their child than your mom is right now.”
911 Dispatch tells us Tymella followed instructions and helped to prepare for the arrival of responders. Medical responders were also impressed and commented on how well she handled the situation. She was presented with goodie bags with items from Berrien County 911, Medic 1, the county parks and health departments, and Michigan State Police.
