Benton Harbor’s Present Pillars is marking Men’s Health Month in Berrien County with a series of events around the community.
Present Pillars is seeking to draw attention to the need for proactive measures to address disparities in health outcomes among men, especially among marginalized communities, and they’re promoting healthy lifestyle choices, early detection, and the destigmatization of seeking medical assistance.
Present Pillars Director James Gunter says, “Men in our community need to see that they are cared for and that they are loved because when there are happy fathers, it leads to a healthy family and healthy families lead to healthy communities.”
Among the events Present Pillars has planned for this month are a discussion about the importance of fatherhood in education at 133 West Main Street in Benton Harbor on June 13, a free lunch provided by Silver Beach Pizza at Jean Klock Park on June 14, the Juneteenth Parade the Juneteenth Festival at Dwight P Mitchell Park on June 15, and the conclusion of Dad Week ‘24 on June 16 with the Father’s Day Light Show at Jean Klock Park on June 16.
Present Pillars has also partnered with the Renaissance Athletic Club for a men’s health challenge, offering a free membership to the man who loses the most weight by the end of the month.
