Benton Harbor veterans getting yard work help from hockey team

A couple of Berrien County veterans are getting some help with work around the yard thanks to the Lakeshore-St. Joseph Warriors High School Hockey Team.

Berrien County Veterans Services Director Maureen Adams tells us the team reached out to her to ask if it could be connected with veterans who need some yard work done. She was able to find some.

“The varsity team is going out one day, and the JV team is going out another day,” Adams said. “This hockey team, as part of their program, they just want to give student athletes the opportunity to grow into young adults through responsibility and hard work, and community service is part of their pillar.”

The volunteers were to do yard work at the home of William Gessee in Benton Harbor on Sunday, and they plan to help out Larry Hendrixon of Benton Harbor next Sunday.

Adams says it was her pleasure to help connect the veterans with some young people looking to do good in the community.
